CO2 Flow Characteristics in Macro-Scale Coal Sample: Effect of CO2 Injection Pressure and Buried Depth

Experimental studies have confirmed the permeability reduction of coal samples upon adsorption CO2. However, these were carried out under limited experimental conditions. In this study, CO2 flow behaviors in a macro-scale sample numerically simulated using coupled gas flow, mechanical deformation, and sorption-induced deformation finite element model. The simulation results show that effect effective stress on enhancement is greater than negative due to for low injection pressures. pressure development increases with increasing enhanced advection flux sub-critical injections, while super-critical development, as well concentrations sample, decreases compared injections because density viscosity matrix swelling induced by Increasing axial (buried depth) obstructs migration increased stress, more influential pressures, which indicates high pressures are preferred sequestration deep seams.
